Bellarmine Ties For Second at Downtown InvitationalBellarmine put together its best performance of the fall invitational season by finishing with 6 wins and 2 losses at the Downtown Invitational hosted by New York University. The team had four very tough rounds of competition against NYU, SMU, Georgetown University and Maryland. Going into the fourth round, Bellarmine was in a five-way tie for first place. If Bellarmine had won both ballots in the fourth round, they would have won the tournament outright. Instead, they dropped an incredibly close and high-scoring ballot to the University of Maryland, while taking the other ballot comfortably. In compiling the 6-2 record, Bellarmine finished ahead of Columbia University, Georgetown University, and NYU. Bellarmine's Chelsea Brown won her third witness award of the fall semester for her portrayal of Billy Kraus. Brown is one of the most decorated first year mock trial participants in Bellarmine history. Freshman and fellow first-year participant Thomas Pedron finished with as an Honorable Mention all-tournament witness for his portrayal of the victim. The team will be back in action in the spring semester. |
