Bellarmine Competes in D.C.; Brown Named Outstanding Witness

Bellarmine competed this weekend in the prestigious Great American Mock Trial Invitational hosted by two-time defending national champions The University of Virginia.

The team competed against Cornell University, Rhodes College, Redlands University and the University of Maryland on its way to a record of 3 wins and 5 losses.  Of the five ballots lost, three were by a margin of three points or less.  The tournament was incredibly competitive and hard-fought, and the coaches are proud of how the team performed.

For the second time this year, Bellarmine's Chelsea Brown earned recognition as one of the ten best witnesses in the entire competition.  This time, Brown portrayed Reverend W.P. Darrow, the minister who oversees jailhouse programs participated in by Bobbi Campbell, the defendant whose prison sentence is the subject of the case.  Her testimony is offered to show that the jury should be more merciful in sentencing Bobbi Campbell, and Brown did an excellent job bringing that point home.

Team 853, featuring Alex Flood, John James, Mark Witten, Connie Kremer, Katherine Constable, Tiffany Funk and Namon Allen, will be in competition at Middle Tennessee State University this weekend.  The following weekend, Team 852 wraps up the fall invitational season at the Downtown Invitational at New York University.
