Bellarmine Comes Up Short in Attempt for Third Straight Final Round Appearance

Bellarmine came up just short in an attempt for an unprecedented three straight appearances in the national final round.

Team 852, featuring seniors Ryane Conroy, Matt Rich, William Armstrong and Cathy Howard, juniors John Balenovich and Sarah Wimsatt, and freshman Betsy Blancett, started the competition much as it had all season, winning the first four ballots in emphatic fashion over Central Florida and the University of Iowa.  The third round saw team 852 battle Columbia University, who proved to be a worthy adversary.  Bellarmine earned one of the two judges' ballots by 25 points, but lost the other by a single point.

At 5-1, the team played Yale University in the fourth round.  After a loss and a tie on the two ballots in that round, Bellarmine finished at 5-2-1, which was good enough for 6th place in the division and another top 10 finish overall.

Team 853 saw one of its competitors, Sariena Dunn, earn All American honors in a competition that proved to be an excellent learning experience for them.
