"Being a part of Bellarmine’s Mock Trial team ranks as one of the highlights of my college years. By preparing for and presenting the trial of a fictitious case, I was first introduced to the practice of law and others who shared a similar interest, learned the basics of persuasion and advocacy from the perspective of each party and each witness, experienced the thrill of competition and teamwork, went on some really memorable road trips, including the annual national competition in Des Moines, Iowa, and met some wonderful friends that I still have contact with today. This laid the groundwork for my career as a lawyer. Although many members of the Louisville Bar Association are alumni of the Bellarmine Mock Trial program, others who have gone into other fields have also benefited from the invaluable skills and knowledge that the team experience offers. Longtime coaches, Jim Wagoner and Dr. Ruth Wagoner, are incredible mentors who make participation both fun and a worthwhile learning opportunity. I always come back to judge Bellarmine’s regional tournament each year in the hope that other college students can have as much fun as I did."
